Why Friends Matter
Rittenhouse Square is one of Philadelphia’s greatest treasures – yet it cannot survive on popularity alone. We need your support to sustain this vibrant landmark.
Although nearly 10,000 people live and work around the Square, fewer than 8% contribute financially to its upkeep. It is in every neighbor’s interest to keep the Square beautiful.

The state of the Square directly affects the value of your property. Much of the constant care the park requires is provided by the Friends. Few people realize that we pay for all landscaping…doggie bags…sidewalk sweeping…holiday lights…and the summer park ranger. The Friends, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, do all this and much more.
In 2012, we plan to add lighting and cameras to enhance safety and discourage graffiti and vandalism. Structural restoration projects are also on the agenda. These essential improvements will require additional funding. They will also improve the appearance of the Square and thus enhance the value of your property.
Rittenhouse Square receives the majority of its financial support from the Friends of Rittenhouse Square, with limited funding from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation/Fairmount Park. Contributions from the city and state continue to be drastically cut. The Friends simply cannot continue to meet the ever escalating needs of the park without your membership support.
Now is the time to actively invest in your community. Support the Friends of Rittenhouse Square by becoming a member, and help us care for the Square. We ask you not only for financial support, but also to help spread our message to your friends and neighbors. Please become a member today!
We look forward to your support. Because while the Square has many fans, what it really needs is more friends.
