Walk into Rittenhouse Square, and you are greeted by Fairmount Park signs itemizing the rules of the park. The immediate impression you get is that the City pays for Rittenhouse Square’s needs.

That is not the whole truth. While the City pays for some of the park’s requirements, the Friends of Rittenhouse Square – a 501C3 organization – pay for most. We even paid for those Fairmount Park signs.

The Friends write checks for all the landscaping in the Square, new trees, trash receptacles, garden fencing, sidewalk cleaning by Center City District employees, fencing around the interior oval, the holiday light display…even the installation and re-stocking of doggie bag dispensers.

Although we used to approach dog owners and persuade them to join the Friends, it is inefficient and difficult to build membership one dog at a time. We hope you can become a member. It’s a rewarding experience. You’ll feel good seeing how your support continues to help beautify, protect, and preserve this very special place. What’s more, your membership is also 100% tax deductible. If you can’t become a member at this time, perhaps you can make a micro-donation, or volunteer. Any way that you can be a Friend to Rittenhouse Square is deeply appreciated.
